The new track from Ashe is the aptly and perfectly titled ‘Hope You’re Not Happy’. It’s a relaxed ballad that puts her distinctive voice over simple acoustic chords and floating beats, but still allows for a grand explosion of texture and power in the on-the-nose choruses. “Some songs are about acceptance and moving on; wishing someone the best even though you’re not together anymore,” she explains. “This is not that song. ‘Hope You’re Not Happy’ is about the harsh truth that us all at some point hope the person we’re no longer with is miserable without us.” The track comes just as her long summer 2022 tour kicks off in Chicago. -Dan Peeke.
